The Postman

It is the near future, and a reign of terror and bloodshed has left the United States in a shambles. The infrastructure has crumbled and people now live in isolated communities, unaware of the existence of others. An evil despot (Will Patton) makes sure that the people's hopes are not raised.

A stranger (Kevin Costner), posing as a mailman, arrives and is surprised by the effect he has on people. Hoping only for food and shelter, he ends up giving the people the connection to the outside world that they need. With this new hope, they are inspired to rise up against the oppressors. Costner must decide whether to confess to his deception or continue to play the role that led to the new hope.
